Dee here ...Growing up in California during the 80's and spending a lot of time working with bands on the road, to living in the North Georgia mountains, was certainly a culture shock. I'm not gonna lie, I was miserable at first and it took a few years to adjust. But then, somehow magically, there was no other place I'd rather be. The relaxed pace of this small town that is Blue Ridge has given me the ultimate gift of "Stop and Smell the Roses".
When I moved here 5 years ago, there was a lot of growth taking place, even through the entire town had only three or four traffic lights, one grocery store and a gas station. Not to mention two cops and a fireman. Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating, but it did seem like that.
The reality of it all is that the community of Blue Ridge is known for it's amazing cabin rentals, the mountains, biking trails, whitewater rafting, horseback riding, Scenic Railroad, great restaurants and shopping in the Historic Downtown District. It was not until I accepted this place as my home that I begin to notice the wonderful things happening around me.
Moving from Los Angeles where there is so much to see, I saw nothing here. Where I thought there was nothing to see, I now see everything. Quite a magical time to be a part of this community.
And, did I mention they love good music here? I discovered that many of the local musicians (who by the way are extremely talented) are true fans of the art. Most of them know more about the bands I worked with than I did. That's when I realized I may have been the one carrying the roses, but they were the ones smelling 'em.
